Battle of Alpens

From COOLTUR Cultural Tourism we present our tour of the Battle of Alpens

During the 19th century, there were three civil wars in the Spanish kingdom. These three wars are usually reduced to succession to the Spanish Crown. However, the causes of these wars are much deeper. We can say that these wars were the struggle between traditionalism, defended by the Carlists, and reformism, defended by the Elizabethans.

On July 9, 1873, during the third Carlist War, there was a battle at Alpens. In this battle, the Carlist army, commanded by Infante Alfonso Carlos de Borbón, ambushed the Isabeline army. The battle was won by the Carlists thanks to their military strategy. As a consequence of the battle, the liberal brigadier Cabrinetty died.
