The laundry of el Serrat is located in Calle del Serrat, to the south-west of the town of Centelles.
During the 19th and 20th centuries, a series of washing places were built in different Catalan towns. These were public places for families to wash their clothes.
At the beginning of the 20th century, in Centelles, there were a total of 9 public laundries. The generalization of the washing machines made these constructions go into decline. Due to this inoperability, along with the natural evolution of Centelles, has made the 9 washeries, only one is preserved, the Serrat washery.
This washing place was built in 1900, and used the waters of the Riucerdà torrent. Originally, this wash-house consisted of a tank, a drinking trough, a fountain and two swimming pools that served as a washing place. Unfortunately, in the 1990s, the drinking trough, the fountain and one of the covered parts of the tank were dismantled. Only the two swimming pools in the Serrat wash-house were preserved.
