The Arc de Triumph is located at the top of the Lluís Companys Promenade, just next to the Ciutadella Park in Barcelona.
The Arch of Triumph was designed by Josep Vilaseca Casanova, and was built for the Universal Exhibition of Barcelona, which was held in 1888. During this exhibition, the Arch of Triumph became, along with the statue of Columbus, symbols of the city, and it is for this reason that it was decided to preserve this element.
This arch was built with exposed brick, decorated with glazed ceramics and some stone element. It is a simple construction, formed by a large monumental arch flanked by two columns on both sides.
This arch was restored in 1990 by Barcelona City Council.
