Mataró is a municipality located on the Mediterranean coast, next to Barcelona, in the Maresme region. In fact, Mataró is the capital of Maresme.

Mataró Prison
Mataró Prison is located at Muralla de la Presó Street, 2, in the centre of Mataró.
This building was built in 1863 by order of the architect Elies Rogent. The Mataró Prison is made up of a rectangular body and another semicircular body that generates an inner courtyard in the shape of a half-circle.
The main façade is made of exposed brick, with a plinth of large ashlars. The semicircular openings are framed by stone.
The Mataró Prison ceased to function as a prison in 1967.
