Inside the cemetery of Arenys de Mar, located in Salvador Espriu square, next to the town centre of Arenys de Mar, in the Maresme region, we can see the Sepulchre Solà-Vinardell.
This tomb was sculpted between 1902 and 1905 by the sculptor Venanci Vallmitjana. In its construction he used white marble and numulitic stone.
The sculpture represents the Pietà, where the Virgin Mary embraces the cost of Christ. Surely, this is the best work of Venanci Vallmitjana, with the great work of the anatomy of Christ, the folds of the dresses, the face of the Virgin and the pyramidal composition. Later, this sculpture was covered by a stone temple.
This sculpture is a large scale transposition of a piece of polychrome terracotta that the artist made in 1880. This piece of terracotta is preserved in the MNAC (National Museum of Art of Catalonia).
