Inside the cemetery of Arenys de Mar, located in Salvador Espriu Square, next to the town centre of Arenys de Mar, in the Maresme region, we can see the Sepulchre Mundet.
This tomb was sculpted in 1901 by the sculptor Josep Llimona. Montjuic stone and bronze were used to build this tomb.
In this tomb we can see the sculpture entitled, by Josep Llimona, “I remember the dead”, and it is one of the jewels of Catalan modernist funerary art.
In this work, Josep Llimona abandons the angels to show a young woman with a symbolist aesthetic and a lost look. This female figure is sitting, with her head resting on one hand, and with an expression of sadness and meditation. According to Raimon Casellas, this sculpture represents the highest expression of a thought of his sculptor.
Apart from the sculpture, we can also highlight, from this tomb, the bronze plate influenced by Auguste Rodin.
