The municipal slaughterhouse is a building located on Pau Casals Avenue, within the urban framework of Prats de Lluçanès.
This is a small Modernist-style building that was built in 1908. Its architect was A. Zaragoza, and it was built to be the municipal slaughterhouse. As a slaughterhouse, it maintained its activity until the end of the 20th century.
This building has only one floor, and plays with the visible work as a decorative element. The main door is flanked by two large windows. All the openings are amotllades with exposed work elements.
One of the most unique parts of this building is the large porthole above the main door. In this porthole, there is a stained glass window where you can still see the old municipal coat of arms. Around that porthole, although you can read “Matadero Publich”, which reminds us of the function of this building. Apart from the name, we can also see the year in which it was built. The façade ends with a stepped tester, which takes on a triangular shape.
During the Civil War, the City Council of Prats controlled all the activity of the municipal slaughterhouse, as it wanted to control the cattle that were slaughtered.
