Discover the Roman city of Barcelona
Discover the remains of the Roman city of Barcelona that are still preserved!
Today, Barcelona is one of the most cosmopolitan cities in Europe. However, if we look for the origins of the city of Barcelona, these go back to Roman times.
Barcino, the current city of Barcelona, was a Roman colony that was founded in the first century BC. This colony was structured around what is now Sant Jaume Square, and some 2,000 people lived there. Since its foundation, the city also had a walled enclosure that delimited the population.
Despite the fact that since its origins, the city of Barcelona has grown to become the city we can enjoy today, we can still find remains of the ancient Roman city of Barcelona. Among these remains, we can highlight the wall, as well as the aqueduct or a necropolis.
