Perafita is a municipality located in the natural region of the Lluçanès plateau, in the county of Osona.
Perafita is a small municipality where you can still find a large number of places of great natural beauty. You can also discover heritage elements of great value. However, Perafita is famous for its coques (sweet cakes), a typical Catalan dessert.
Church of Sant Pere of Perafita
The church of Sant Pere of Perafita is the parish church of Perafita and is located in the centre of this municipality.
The earliest recorded records, of the church of Sant Pere of Perafita, date back to the year 1074. It should be said, therefore, that it was not considered a parish church until 1121.
Of the original Romanesque building, only the tympanum remains. This tympanum has been visible inside the church since 1986. In this tympanum we can see a theoganic representation of the Maiestas Domini. This representation is surrounded by an angel, representing Saint Matthew, a lion, representing Saint Mark, a bull, representing Saint Luke, and an eagle, representing Saint John.
The current building, of the church of Sant Pere of Perafita, was built in the 18th century. It is a large building with a single nave and side chapels. It also has an octagonal bell tower.
On the main façade of the church of Sant Pere of Perafita, there is a large rectangular entrance door, crowned with the relief of a cross. Above this door are two portholes that illuminate the interior of the church. This façade ends with circular shapes and five triangular pinnacles.
