Originally, Vilassar de Mar was the fishermen’s neighbourhood of Vilassar de Dalt. It was not until 1784 that Vilassar de Mar became an independent municipality.
Although Vilassar de Mar does not have a large municipal area, in this municipality you can find natural places of great beauty. In fact, in Vilassar de Mar there are some of the quietest and most family-friendly beaches in Catalonia!
But you can also find a great number of heritage elements of incalculable value!
Cal Sobrestant
Cal Sobrestant, also known as Can Sánchez, is a building located at Sant Pau Street, 22, in the centre of Vilassar de Mar.
The house of Cal Sobrestant consists of a ground floor and two upper floors. The whole building has a great symmetry marked by the entrance door, a balcony, and the crowning of the façade.
The wrought iron work of Cal Sobrestant, which is different on each floor, is particularly noteworthy. On the ground floor, one can see railings decorated with watering cans and garlands. On the first floor, the railings are decorated with floral elements, and on the first floor, on the double windows, there are iron plates in the shape of lilies.
Also noteworthy is the cornice of Cal Sobrestant, where there are corbels, a stone railing, and the neoclassical sgraffito crowning with a circular pediment.
