Vilassar de Mar is a municipality located next to Barcelona, in the Maresme region.
Originally, Vilassar de Mar was the fishermen’s neighbourhood of Vilassar de Dalt. It was not until 1784 that Vilassar de Mar became an independent municipality.
Although Vilassar de Mar does not have a large municipal area, in this municipality you can find natural places of great beauty. In fact, in Vilassar de Mar there are some of the quietest and most family-friendly beaches in Catalonia!
But you can also find a great number of heritage elements of incalculable value!
Ca la Maria Espartera
Ca la Maria Espartera is one of the oldest houses preserved in Vilassar de Mar. This building is located at CamíRal Street, 16, in the centre of Vilassar de Mar.
Ca la Maria Espartera is an old Gothic house that has been, with the passing of time, squeezed between two side buildings. In this house you can still see a voussoir doorway with a semicircular arch. A small coat of arms is sculpted on the top of this doorway.
Above the entrance door of Ca la Maria Espartera, there is a Gothic window with a carved, lobed arch. This window also has an upper sill, as well as the imposts, the jambs and the sill that have been worked with mouldings.
